    School Calendar Changes

    Dear Parent/Guardian:

The PCSD calendar for 2017-2018 provided for 5 emergency closing days.  With the closing of school on Thursday, March 8th, we have now closed school for grades K-12 on 7 days:  Thursday and Friday, January 4th and 5th; Wednesday, January 17th; Wednesday, February 7th; Friday, March 2nd; and Wednesday and Thursday, March 7th and 8th.  The elementary school closed for an additional day (Thursday, February 8th) due to a heating problem at the school.

As indicated on the 2017-2018 PCSD calendar, school closings in excess of the 5 allotted days will be made up in the following order:  1) Monday, March 26th, 2) Tuesday, March 27th, 3) Wednesday, March 28th, 4) Thursday, March 29thAt this time Monday, March 26th and Tuesday, March 27th will be days when school will be in session for grades K-12.  Additional emergency school closings will result in school being scheduled on Wednesday, March 28th and Thursday, March 29th in order to meet the 180 day State requirement.

On Friday, June 1st, the elementary school will have a full day of school to make up for the elementary school closing on Thursday, February 8th, due to the lack of heat in the building.  The middle school and high school will maintain the half-day schedule for Friday, June 1st.

Please note that additional school closings will result in the need to add days of instruction (Wednesday, March 28th; Thursday, March 29th) to the school calendar.

Pawling Elementary School Newsletter  March 2018

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are hopeful that March will bring us warmer weather!  Please remember to send your child/ren in to school prepared to go outside.  We try to get our students out every day during recess (weather permitting), so please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately.

March is filled with many exciting activities.  Details for many of these events (as well as regular information from your child’s teacher and the school) will be going home through backpack mail, so please be sure to check your child’s backpack regularly.  Please remember that our PTA Scholastic Book Fair runs from March 20th – 22nd.

We are beginning to plan for next year by holding our incoming Kindergartener Parent Information Night on March 13th at 7pm (snow date is March 15th).  We will be scheduling screenings for our incoming kindergarteners from April 18th – 20th.  If you know of any friends or family members in our district who have children who will be 5 years old on or before December 1st, 2018, please let them know to call our school for some valuable information about kindergarten registration.

I am thrilled to announce that thanks to our school community’s generous donations, our school collected over 400 tubes of toothpaste for the Pawling Resource Center during the month of February!  Our students got into the spirit of National Children’s Dental Health Month by creating posters, and researching dental facts to share with our school.  Our kindergartners took over the tallying and progress monitoring of our donations through large graphs and diagrams.  We are looking forward to bringing our donations to the Resource Center soon.

Jump Rope for Heart was recently held on two separate nights to accommodate the crowds who come out for this fun event.  Not only do our students learn a great deal about heart health through their participation in Jump Rope for Heart, but this is also great fundraiser for the American Heart Association.  A great big thank you goes out to Mrs. Pehmoeller and Mrs. Sutton for organizing this wonderful event, and to all of the staff and parent volunteers who helped out.

We celebrated our “100th day” with a Math carnival on February 15th that was brought to us by the PTA!  All students had an opportunity to visit the carnival and play various math games that were facilitated by volunteers from the PTA and the community.  It was a wonderful event!  Our kindergarteners got into the spirit again by dressing up as 100 year olds as they traveled throughout their day.
